ACTOR
and her Children
by Rosie Glen-Lambert and Hailey McAfee
directed by Rosie Glen-Lambert
“I’m a spokesperson for the National Rifle Association. And as a mother, I mean, you get it, right?”
Inspired by Dana Loesch’s infamous appearance at a Town Hall following the Parkland shooting, And Her Children investigates America’s gun violence epidemic through the lens of those who are paid to defend the right to bear arms. Time holds still as our contemporary Anna Fierling is plummeted into a liminal space where the audience is a stand-in for her own troubled conscience. In this imagined space, she grapples with two gnawing questions: Has she been selfish? And will she keep her job?
“Hailey McAfee steps into the starring role of what is mostly a one-woman show — the execution is on a level that left the audience in a stunned state as if something percussive had hit them.”

Iphigenia in Splott
by Gary Owen
directed by Rosie Glen-Lambert
“Tonight, you all are here to give thanks to me.”
Effie is a vulgar, rage-filled young woman who spends her nights getting as drunk as she possibly can. She has little direction in life, and even less opportunity. But everything changes the night she meets Lee, a scarred soldier, who gives her a sense of hope. Unfortunately for Effie there are no fairytale endings in the South Wales district of Splott, and in the months following her night with Lee, we watch society fail her. Like Iphigenia, Effie is sacrificed. But unlike her Greek counterpart, she survives. We’re in Effie’s debt, and tonight she’s come to collect.
“Her portrayal of Effie is a whirlwind of intensity that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats from start to finish.”

Three Exorcisms
by Avery Deutsch
directed by Tyler Bremer
“Run piggy, run!”
It's 1566 and Nicole is possessed by the devil...and she's famous for it. It's tragic. It's worrisome. It's getting her a lot of strange attention from one very eager little nun, an old lady who thinks she's a teenager, and a soft-spoken stable boy. A play about trapping ourselves and trapping each other, and what it takes to get out.
“Hailey McAfee gives a powerful performance, rich, layered, and oozing with a sort of dark charisma necessary for such a role.”

“I just wanted a chance to start over, you know? I just wanted to be the hero for once.”
Chaos and comedy collide when an ordinary day in a corporate break room takes a darkly hilarious turn. Harry, bitter about being passed over for a promotion, finds his gripes sidelined as Vic, a recently fired employee, storms in with a gun, demanding justice. As donuts, grudges, and egos fly, the unlikely hostages are forced to confront their personal failures, office rivalries, and surprising connections. Fast-paced, sharp-witted, and unexpectedly heartfelt, The Hostage Situation is a workplace comedy turned upside-down, proving that even in the darkest moments, there’s room for humor—and maybe a little humanity.

“Working with Hailey was one of the best experiences I’ve had working with a director. She understands the heart of a play and the very essence of its characters with pinpoint precision, while at the same time creating the kind of fun and collaborative atmosphere that allows for endless discovery and growth in a script.”

Six Men Dressed Like Joseph Stalin
by Dianne Nora
directed by Hailey McAfee
produced by The Inkwell Theater
“Is there a way that, that it can cost something, but not cost everything?”
When Soso is left for dead on the Eastern Front, he’s taken in by the Kremlin due to his shocking resemblance to a certain someone. Koba is tasked with training him to perform the role of a lifetime: Stalin’s body double. While Soso is a performer—trained to dance, juggle, and tour the countryside entertaining peasants, Koba is an Actor’s Actor, a student of Stanislavski himself (maybe you’ve heard of his System?), committed to the pursuit of perezhivanie, or experiencing a character’s reality. Based on true events, the doubles prepare for the Conference at Tehran, when three so-called Great Men (or were they merely players?) decided the fate of the 20th century.

“Meticulously prepared but flexible and supportive of others’ suggestions, thoughtful and intellectually engaged but always willing to indulge in irreverent play, rigorous but patient, specific but sensitive to her collaborators’ needs—Hailey McAfee strikes the perfect balance as a director of new plays. If you have a script you’re hoping to improve or a project you’d like to see brought to life, I can’t recommend working with her enough. Be prepared to up your game—she elevates the work of every artist in the room.”
